A New Witcher
The Witcher 4 follows Ciri as the new playable protagonist — now a fully trained witcher in her own right. Geralt is confirmed to appear in the story but in a supporting role. The narrative picks up several years after the events of The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine.
New Engine, New Scale
Built from scratch on Unreal Engine 5 with CDPR's proprietary REDengine middleware, the game targets 60fps on current-generation hardware. Early footage shows draw distances and foliage density far beyond anything in The Witcher 3.
The World
The game is set primarily on the Continent's northern kingdoms, with confirmed locations including a reimagined Novigrad, the Skellige Isles expanded to triple their previous size, and an entirely new region called the Everlorn Marshes in the far east.
Combat
Combat is being completely redesigned. Ciri's blink ability plays a central role in combat mobility, and the sign system has been replaced with a more fluid ability-chaining system that rewards reading enemy patterns rather than menu navigation.
Release
No release date confirmed. CDPR is targeting a 2027 launch window.
